Product Scoring / Analysis

1. Where do you get your product information?

Our product information comes from user submissions and publicly available data from manufacturers. Thanks to our community’s contributions, we’re able to keep our database accurate and up to date!

2. How are products scored?

We look at four key factors: nutritional value, additive risk, level of processing, and if it’s organic or not. Click here to learn more about our scoring system.

3. How are recommendations determined?

We do our best to suggest the closest alternatives in terms of type and flavor, only showing products that score 50/100 or higher—so you know you’re getting the best options!

4. How are top categories chosen and products ranked?

Our Tops categories are based on what people are searching for the most. Products within each category are ranked from highest to lowest score. We also do our best to feature a variety of brands and products that are available in your region.

5. How is additive risk determined?

Transparency and science are at the heart of what we do. We stay up to date with the latest research from reputable research journals to assess additive safety. Each additive is classified as Safe, Sensitive, Warning, Danger, Banned or Not Approved.

6. Why did a product's rating change?

Science is always evolving, and we do our best to stay current. A product’s score might change because:

  • New research has updated the risk level of an additive, or
  • The manufacturer has reformulated the product.
