We score our products on a scale from 0-100 and evaluate based off of nutritional composition (Nutri-Score) and additive safety, organic-ness and ultra-processing level.
Nutri-Score
positive factors
Foods earn positive points for nutrients we should eat more of like fiber, protein, and fruits and vegetables, which support overall health.
negative factors
Sugars, saturated fats, and sodium lower the score, as too much can lead to long-term health issues.
calorie content
Higher calorie foods receive a lower score to encourage balanced portions.
The Nutri-Score balances these factors to give a simple A to E grade, helping you quickly identify healthier options. To learn more about Nutri-Score, you can click here.
Additive Safety
safety matters
We evaluate the safety of the additives in your food, with safer, more natural ingredients scoring higher.
health impact
Additives are assessed based on published research that links them to potential long-term health effects, like gut health issues, cancer, or behavioral impacts.
regulatory status
We consider whether additives are banned or restricted in certain countries, reflecting global safety standards.
The fewer the additives and the lower their health risks, the better the score, guiding you toward safer, healthier choices.
Organic
certified organic
Foods certified organic score higher because they meet strict standards that prohibit synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and GMOs. Learn more.
organic processed foods
Processed foods must be at least 95% organic to carry the USDA Organic label, meaning fewer artificial additives and preservatives.
balanced approach
While organic foods are preferred, we adjust their impact on the score to reflect that they may not always be accessible or affordable for everyone.
Products with Organic Certifications are rated higher.
Level of Processing
what are ultra-processed foods?
These are highly processed foods made mostly from refined ingredients, additives, and preservatives, with little to no whole foods. Think sugary cereals, packaged snacks, and processed meats.
processing scale
Foods score higher when they are minimally processed and closer to their natural form. The more processing, the lower the score.
nutritional impact
Ultra-processed foods often lose key nutrients and gain added sugars, artificial flavors, and preservatives, which can negatively affect health.
Less ultra-processed products rate higher.
